Seven moderates voted in the affirmative to help move the state a step closer to becoming the seventh in the nation to adopt such legislation.
Bill to lower school employee insurance rates clears committee 2/2/2012
A bill sponsored by Sen. Steve Hobbs to help public school employees acquire affordable insurance cleared the Health & Long-Term Care Committee on Thursday.
Under Senate Bill 6442 the approximately 300 insurance plans and 1,000 insurance pools for the 295 school districts throughout Washington will be consolidated into one. This will create savings through greatly reduced administrative costs.

Senate bill protects the integrity of the Foreclosure Fairness Act 12/14/2011
A small fix to the Foreclosure Fairness Act will have big implications for Washingtonians at risk of losing their homes.
Senate Bill 5988, which garnered unanimous support Wednesday in the House and Senate, is sponsored by Sen. Steve Hobbs, D-Lake Stevens. The bill contains an emergency clause and will take effect immediately.

Moderate Democrats tout success in reforms to UI, Workers’ Comp programs 12/2/2011
Eighty-eight percent of employers will pay lower tax rates than they did this year thanks to reforms pushed for by moderate Democrats in the House and Senate to the state's unemployment insurance and workers' compensation programs during the 2011 session.
On Thursday the Employment Security Department issued a report which stated that employers which laid off no staff over the last four years will see their rates shrink by a whopping 71 percent, an all-time low for businesses in that rate class. This is especially good news for small businesses which make up 91 percent of this class.
